Getting One's Affairs In Order

I am going in this morning for surgery. It is not a serious problem, not life-threatening, but still a rather involved surgery that will sideline me for a while. This weekend I got the bills paid, the laundry done, talked with my family. My sister had my mother's rosary with her, and she lent it to me to bring today. I have a small pile of college papers for Robert to deal with, and another stack of bills for Paul to take care of next week. I think everything is mostly set. Those of you who read this in time, please pray for me, especially at 11:00 today when I check in, and especially at about 12:30, when surgery starts.

A 1960's Coat for Easter

I started making a 1960's coat from this pattern, a long time ago:

I finally finished it in time to wear to church Easter morning:

Colorful Easter Preparations

Easter is such a special time of year. Spiritually grounding, family-oriented, hopeful, and beautiful. We are in the midst of the Triduum Masses at church. Last night we decorated Easter eggs in preparation for the Easter Basket Blessing and Children's Egg Hunt held at our church on Easter Saturday.

Breakfast Outdoors

Today was the first truly warm day of the year. It seemed everyone took the opportunity to go outside. I made pancakes for breakfast and we decided to eat outside (one of our favorite things to do!). Paul quickly got the umbrella set up for the patio table.

Then we surveyed the garden and enjoyed looking at this:

The Young Master Commences His Violin Lessons

Tyler started his violin lessons on a Saturday afternoon:

First, Mrs. Roberts taught him how to take his violin and bow out of the case. Then she tuned his violin for him.

Then, Mrs. Roberts played a song for him. He absolutely loved it!

She showed him how to hold the violin and bow. It was a little awkward at first. He had to support the violin with his hand until he learns how to keep it in place with only his chin.

Playing some notes for Mrs. Roberts.

After the lesson, we went to Boris' Cafe, a little restaurant in Winnetka with a vintage decor:

A happy little boy.
